      Requirements (Minimum):
The case study must be a factual account of real world situation which required a technical solution chosen from one of the available topics for the course.
Present at least one External Contact's point of view in the case
Using the CMS software create at least one chart that applies to the case
Minimum section requirements include: Abstract, Introduction, Background, Summary of Critical Issues, Strategic Analysis, and Recommendations

      Evaluation Criteria:
Summary of critical issues  20 pts • Identifies internal and external issues
      • Identifies the most important issues
      • Most of the information in the case is not repeated
Strategic analysis 40 pts • Evidences of deeper analysis (What do you need?)
      • Suggests realistic options
      • Identifies Pros and Cons
      • Provides realistic, case based support for options
Recommendations  20 pts • Presents substantial, realistic, and valuable solutions
      • Identifies the implementation impact
Composition  20 pts • Present ideas in a clear and logical order
      • Demonstrates an understanding of the subtleties of the case
      • Includes exhibits, i.e. CMS charts, tables, graphs, spreadsheets
      • Uses correct grammar, spelling, structure
      • Includes bibliography and footnotes

      Case Study Organization:
      Report Section Elements
Title page • Case study title
      • Date of study
      • Time period described in study
      • Author (You)
      • Five key words characterizing the study i.e. Ceramics, Processing, Optimum, Properties, Controls
Abstract • A statement summarizing the important points of the case study
      • Includes keywords in context
      • Is concise - maximum one page
      • Includes: Your role in the case - What the case is about - What the central problem is - Your solution to this problem
Introduction to problem (Time line required for solution) • Describes the context and competing solutions
      • Describes what the ideal solution would be
      • Describes the barriers and enablers for the solution
      • Introduces the personalities
      • Describes the key conflicting issues
      • Outlines the sequence of events
      Detailed Background and Description
      (Technical and non technical)
      • Best technical model of  the problems include background publications, web pages etc.
      • Identify performance indices for the problem
      • Presents technological trade-offs ,
      • Identify the extrinsic constraints including cost ,environment, competitive benchmarks , technical risk etc.
      Technical Solution Criteria

Example 1 - Handbook of Case Studies in Failure Analysis

Example 2, Student Case Study (Snowboards)

      • Ties the events, personalities, and facts together
      • Present functional requirements and performance indices
      • Presents the selection charts , spread sheets , equations and models used to differentiate the tradeoffs
      • Discusses the pros and cons leading to decisions
Non technical Constraints • Impact of extrinsic constraints identified above
      • Market and organizational constraints
      Conclusions and
      Recommendations
      • Integrate technical and non technical criteria to arrive at best solution
      • Demonstrate solution benefits
      • Identify the cost of implementation
      • Describe what actually happened in the situation
      • Enumerate lessons learnt reconciling actual vs systematic selection

      Additional Tips:
Keep the internal and external stake holders  in mind. Assume that this case study is the deciding factor between whether or not your perspective employer promotes or even keeps  you or someone else around
Limit the discussion from three to six  issues
Document your sources and references as you go
      Distinguish between fact and opinion
