  • Caelan - Slides 1-3, 12
  • Brennan - Slides 8, 9, 13
  • Ben - Slides 4-7, 10, 11

Wednesday, Feburary 28, 2018

Meeting Synopsis

  • RF communication technologies.
  • Vehicle sensor technologies.
  • Detecting a vehicle, not bikes or people.
  • Detecting a traffic backup.
  • Solar panels and power efficiency.
  • Alternatives to optical sensors.
  • Permission to place sensors in the lot.

Sensors

  • Optical Time-of-Flight sensor.
  • Distance sensors.
  • Thermal sensors.
  • Laser or refraction sensors.
  • Microphone sensors.
  • Electromagnetic sensors.

Ideas

  • Use two sensors at angles to detect vehicle. Signal overlap implies that a car has passed when using two sensors at 45 degrees.
  • Use a solar panel that can capture enough energy in one day to power the unit for 5 days.
  • Use a laser in-between sensors.

Parts Documentation

To-Do

  • Get permission for access to the parking lot.
  • Finish initial proposal document and presentation slides.

  • Plan meeting for initial proposal document.

Ideas

  • Lot with Sensors that connect to a single base.
  • Each lot connects to the cloud server.

Parts Documentation

  • Receiver and transmitter.
  • Solar panel for power.
  • Receiver and transmitter.
  • Two sensors for each exit, 4 total.
  • Device to handle all network activities.
  • Cloud service.

Project proposal and reports

  • Website and log.
  • Initial proposal document.

To-Do

  • Ben: Research sensor technologies, research RF modules, Work on background section of the proposal, scope of project, design approach.
  • Caelan: Research cloud services, apple documentation, start thinking of app design choices, start on initial proposal doc: project tasks, resources, testing, demo.
  • Brennan: Research energy collection, android documentation, possible android app designs, work on the proposal, keep website up to date with meeting logs.
  • Get permission for access to the parking lot.
  • Meet Monday Feburary 26th @ 5:15pm.
