RE: Week 11 : An Average Consumer's Spending
This chart has lots of information and not easy to understand at first time for reader. I agree with most of explained by Yuedong. This is good chart which use area to encode. The interaction also great for chart, I thick they need use more interaction to replace the information in the chart, it will be look good at first time.

RE: Week 11 : An Average Consumer's Spending
This visualization looks interesting.
Following are the pros and cons---

Pros--
1) Area encoding is used to represent share of how much an average american spends on different commodities.
2)Color map is used to show which categories prices go up or down.
3)Good technique to represent a large amount of data in a concise format.
4)Mouse rollover effect can give more details about each category.

Cons--
1)Area encoding is not an effective technique to encode values as it is very difficult to figure out the difference between similar categories.

Overall this visualization has fulfilled its purpose.
